Page 5: Friday Part Two

Chicago Museum Madness

With a long stretch of time at the convention with nothing for us to do, we decided to play tourist for part of the day.

DRD-Karenza and DRD-CrankyKate decided to take the L-Train into downtown Toronto to see the Art Institute of Chicago.

Meanwhile, John, DRD-Andrew, DRD-Kim, and DRD-Suse took a drive to the McDonald's Museum.

Since some of us had been to the Rosemont Illinois area many times before (for the Visions Conventions that had been held there through most of the 1990's), we were surprised to learn that this museum was so close by. The museum commemorates the first ever restaurant that was part of the McDonald's chain. The museum has two parts: Part one is the original restaurant itself, which has been set up to simulate what it looked like in the 1950s (complete with 50s cars in the parking lot!). Part two is across the street inside a more modern-looking McDonald's, where a variety of photos and exhibits on the history of McDonald's can be seen.

Unfortunately, part one of the museum closes very early in the day, and we arrived ten minutes after closing on Friday. Because of this, we returned to the museum again on Saturday.

Along with old advertising, packaging, and uniform items, the museum also featured photos of the original (HIDEOUS!) concept for Ronald McDonald... ... and a scale model of the original McDonald's store across the street, as it would have appeared in the 1950s.
